A vehicle inspection, by phone.

The film needed to show how a driver could complete a guided phone inspection instead of visiting a workshop. The sequence covered authentication, the walk around the vehicle, the scan and submission.

The storyboard defined the user flow.

  1. Original storyboard drawing of a hand entering the authentication code on a phone.
    01

    Authentication

The sequence starts with the authentication code and confirmed access.

  2. Original storyboard drawing of the car alone after the workshop disappears.
    02

    Vehicle without workshop

The workshop disappears from the scene so the remote-service proposition is visible before technical details are introduced.

  3. Original storyboard drawing of a phone guiding a scan around the car.
    03

    360-degree scan

The phone becomes the camera and the route around the car is shown spatially.

  4. Original storyboard drawing of a hand holding a phone as a confirmation message arrives.
    04

    Submission

The flow ends with sending the inspection data and waiting for the result.

Before colour, texture or 3D, the animatic had to make the phone-and-car choreography work.

Combining 3D movement with the illustrated style.

The scan needed spatial camera movement. Wheels used a 3D car for geometry and movement, then controlled materials and outlines so it remained consistent with the illustrated film.

3D render
2D brand treatment
Scrub one timeline to compare the frame-matched 3D render and 2D brand treatment. The spatial choreography stays identical while the visual language changes.

Showing the process, without rebuilding the app.

The live service uses a camera view with reflections, surroundings and different vehicles. For the film, Wheels rebuilt the relevant interaction with controlled 2D and 3D elements so the scan route could be understood quickly. The film demonstrates the product behaviour; it is not the application software.

Rebuilding the scan for communication.

  1. 01

    Reference the real app

The live camera view provided the reference for the wheel guide, camera movement and progress cues.

  2. 02

    Controlled 3D representation

A simplified 3D car and camera path make the scan route legible without environmental camera noise.

  3. 03

    Final composite

The controlled vehicle, interface and illustration are combined into the final branded sequence.

Main film and format adaptations.

The main film covers the complete AutoDigital flow. Shorter versions were prepared for landscape, square and portrait placements using the same approved product sequence.
